Turkey: Iheanacho Makes History With Goals in 10 Consecutive Matches

Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho has made history in Turkish football after scoring in 10 consecutive matches in the Turkish First League.

The Nigerian striker reached the milestone on Thursday night with a brace and an assist as Bursaspor secured a convincing 3-0 victory over Muğlaspor at Muğla Atatürk Stadyumu.

After a goalless first half, Iheanacho thought he had opened the scoring in the 48th minute when he headed the ball into the net during a goalmouth scramble. However, the effort was ruled out for offside.

The former Manchester City and Leicester City attacker eventually broke the deadlock in the 58th minute, converting a pass from Halil Akbunar to put Bursaspor ahead.

According to Turkish newspaper Hürriyet, Iheanacho's scoring run has surpassed the consecutive-match records associated with Galatasaray legend Metin Oktay and former Turkish international Saffet Sancaklı.

Oktay scored in nine successive Süper Lig matches for Galatasaray during the 1962/63 season, while Sancaklı matched that achievement with Kocaelispor in the 1995/96 campaign.

Iheanacho had already established a new scoring record at Bursaspor before the Muğlaspor encounter. His goal in the previous match took him to nine consecutive games with a goal, moving him beyond Fernandao's previous club record of eight straight scoring appearances, set during the 2014/15 season.

The Nigerian international extended his team's advantage in the 73rd minute, finding the net with a left-footed effort from inside the penalty area.

Bursaspor completed the 3-0 win in the 83rd minute when Hüseyin Maldar scored from an assist provided by Iheanacho. The forward's contribution ensured he finished the contest with two goals and one assist.

The performance further strengthened Iheanacho's impressive start to the season. He has now registered 14 goals and three assists in 10 appearances, underlining his importance to Bursaspor's attacking play.

His run of scoring in 10 successive matches marks a significant personal achievement and places him ahead of the historic streaks attributed to Oktay and Sancaklı.

With his latest performance, Iheanacho has continued to deliver consistently for Bursaspor, combining goalscoring with creative contributions as the Turkish campaign progresses.
