Super Falcons forward Gift Monday has expressed gratitude to Washington Spirit following her permanent move to fellow National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) club Boston Legacy.
Boston Legacy completed the signing of the 24-year-old Nigerian international earlier this month, reportedly paying €500,000 to secure her services.
Following the transfer, Monday took to Instagram to reflect on her time with Washington Spirit, expressing appreciation for the support she received and the memories she made during her spell with the American club.
The striker admitted that leaving was an emotional experience, describing her departure as a mixture of gratitude and sadness.
“Saying goodbye is never easy, especially when the memories mean so much. I’m leaving with a grateful heart, beautiful memories, and a little sadness that words cannot explain,” she wrote.
Monday joined Washington Spirit in 2025 after leaving Spanish side UD Tenerife. During her time with the club, she established herself as a contributor to the team's attacking efforts.
The Nigerian forward recorded 12 goals and three assists in 48 regular-season appearances for Washington Spirit, leaving the club with a notable record as she prepares for the next chapter of her career.
Her move to Boston Legacy represents a fresh opportunity to continue her development and make an impact in the NWSL. The reported transfer fee of €500,000 also highlights the investment made by her new club to bring the Super Falcons attacker on board.
Monday's farewell message reflected the personal significance of her time at Washington Spirit, where she spent the period following her arrival from Spain in 2025.
As she begins her new journey with Boston Legacy, the Nigerian international will look to build on the experience gained during her spell with Washington Spirit and continue contributing at club level.
Her departure brings her time with Washington Spirit to an end, with the forward expressing appreciation for the club and the experiences she gathered before making the switch to another NWSL side.
