Ikorodu City and Shooting Stars played out a 2-2 draw in an entertaining Southwest derby, while Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) leaders Rivers United suffered a 2-1 defeat to Bendel Insurance in one of the standout results of the latest round of fixtures.
The Matchday 10 action also saw Nasarawa United secure a narrow 1-0 victory over former champions Enyimba at the Lafia City Stadium.
At the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos, Ikorodu City recovered from a two-goal deficit to earn a share of the points against Shooting Stars in a fiercely contested local derby.
Shooting Stars appeared to be in control after Taofeeq Otaniyi and Desmond Ojietefian found the net to give the visitors a two-goal advantage.
However, Ikorodu City refused to give up and fought their way back into the contest through Donald Obiajulu, who scored twice to rescue a point for the hosts.
The comeback denied Shooting Stars an important away victory and ensured the Southwest rivals finished the encounter level at 2-2. Both teams will now look to turn their performances into more consistent results as the campaign continues.
In Lafia, Nasarawa United claimed all three points against Enyimba after Jofrank Istifanus scored the decisive goal in the first half.
The hosts made their opportunity count, protecting their advantage to secure a 1-0 win over the Aba-based side. Enyimba were unable to find an equaliser and left Lafia empty-handed.
The victory represents an important result for Nasarawa United, while Enyimba will need to respond in their upcoming fixtures as they seek to improve their position in the league.
The biggest result of the round came in Benin City, where Bendel Insurance defeated Rivers United 2-1 to end the league leaders' unbeaten start to the season.
Playing at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Bendel Insurance took the lead through Freeman Wuchirwe, who recently received an invitation to Nigeria's U-23 squad.
Rivers United responded through Chijioke Mbaoma, whose goal brought the visitors back on level terms and raised hopes of preserving their unbeaten record.
But Jonathan Mairiga struck late to seal victory for Bendel Insurance, extending the hosts' winning run at home and delivering a setback to Rivers United's title ambitions.
The defeat ended Rivers United's unbeaten run and demonstrated the challenge of maintaining consistency across a demanding NPFL campaign. The Port Harcourt club will now aim to bounce back in their next matches, while Bendel Insurance will take confidence from another successful home performance.
Across the three fixtures, the results highlighted the unpredictable nature of the league. Ikorodu City showed resilience to recover against Shooting Stars, Nasarawa United made home advantage count against Enyimba, and Bendel Insurance delivered a crucial blow to the previously unbeaten leaders.
Attention will now shift to the next round of matches, with the clubs seeking to build on their successes or recover from disappointing results as the race for points continues.
