Nineteen players are currently with the Super Eagles in Nizhny Novgorod as Nigeria intensifies preparations for Tuesday’s international friendly against Russia.
The Nigerian squad has been affected by injuries and club-related issues ahead of the encounter, with several invited players unavailable for the fixture.
Captain Wilfred Ndidi and Victor Akpe were ruled out after picking up injuries, while Bright Osayi-Samuel, Raphael Onyedika and Ridwan Abdulrasaq Popoola were unable to travel after their respective clubs refused to release them for the friendly.
Nigeria’s camp was boosted on Monday by the arrival of late invitee Ibraheem Ajasa, who plays for FC Rostov in Russia. His arrival brought the number of players in camp to 19.
The Super Eagles are scheduled to hold their final training session on Monday night as head coach Éric Chelle and his technical crew put the finishing touches to their preparations for the game.
The friendly will be played at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium and is scheduled to kick off at 5pm Nigerian time on Tuesday.
Despite the absences, the available players will have the opportunity to continue their preparations and compete for places ahead of the encounter.
The squad currently in camp includes goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, while the attacking options include Moses Simon, Akor Adams and Kelechi Iheanacho.
Iheanacho's presence comes shortly after his return to the national team following an impressive start to the season with Turkish second-tier club Bursaspor.
The 30-year-old striker has scored 11 goals and provided two assists in eight league appearances for his club.
Other players currently with the squad include Emmanuel Fernandez, Benjamin Frederick, Wilfred Igor, Samuel James, Kenneth Igboke, Chibuzor Nwoko, Umar Abubakar and Peter Edokpolor.
Abdullahi Bewene, Umar Abdullai, Atata Michael, Aderemi Adeoye, Isaac James, Michael Stephen and Ajasa complete the list of 19 players in camp.
Nigeria will now use the final training session to prepare for what promises to be a significant test against Russia.
The Super Eagles will be hoping to make the most of the available personnel and produce a strong performance when the two teams meet at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium.
The encounter will also provide an opportunity for the players in camp to stake their claims and impress the technical crew during the international break.
