National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) newcomers Boston Legacy FC have officially unveiled Nigeria international striker Gift Monday following her move from fellow American side Washington Spirit.
Monday has signed a five-year contract with Boston Legacy FC and will wear the number 22 jersey at her new club as she begins the next chapter of her career in the United States.
Boston Legacy announced the forward’s signing on October 6, confirming her departure from Washington Spirit after a spell in which she made valuable contributions to the team’s attack.
The transfer reportedly cost Boston Legacy $500,000, with Washington Spirit also securing a 20 per cent sell-on clause as part of the agreement. The arrangement means Spirit could receive an additional financial benefit if the Nigerian forward is transferred again in the future under the terms of the deal.
Monday’s arrival represents an important addition to Boston Legacy’s attacking options as the club prepares to build its squad around players capable of making an impact in the NWSL. Her experience in the competition and record of contributing goals and assists are expected to be valuable assets at her new destination.
The 24-year-old joined Washington Spirit from Spanish side UD Tenerife in March 2025. During her time with the American club, she established herself as a forward capable of producing decisive moments in attack.
She recorded 12 goals and three assists in 48 appearances across all competitions for Washington Spirit before completing her move to Boston Legacy. Those performances helped strengthen her reputation in the league and attracted interest from her new club.
One of Monday’s most notable achievements came in September 2025, when she scored a hat-trick against Houston Dash in 35 minutes and 52 seconds. The performance set an NWSL record for the fastest hat-trick from kickoff, underlining her ability to find the net repeatedly within a short period.
Her speed, attacking instincts and capacity to convert scoring opportunities have made her an important option in the final third. Boston Legacy will hope she can bring the same qualities to the team and help strengthen its goal threat as she settles into her new surroundings.
Monday is also an established member of Nigeria’s Super Falcons, giving Boston Legacy a forward with international experience in addition to her exposure to club football in Spain and the United States.
Before moving abroad, she featured for several Nigerian clubs, including COD United Amazons, FC Robo and Bayelsa Queens. Her career path through the domestic game, Spanish football and the NWSL has provided her with experience across different competitive environments.
Her five-year deal offers an opportunity to establish herself over the long term at Boston Legacy, where she will be expected to contribute to the club’s attacking play. Wearing the number 22 jersey, the Nigerian striker will now look to make a strong impression and continue developing her reputation in American women’s football.
For Washington Spirit, the transfer brings an end to Monday’s spell with the club while providing a reported $500,000 fee and a 20 per cent sell-on clause. For Boston Legacy, the signing adds a Nigerian international with proven NWSL experience and a record-breaking scoring achievement.
Monday’s unveiling marks the formal beginning of her new chapter, with attention now turning to how quickly she can settle into her new team and reproduce the performances that made her a notable attacking presence at Washington Spirit.
